The world population keeps grow older as fertility rates have fallen to very low levels in most world. People tend to live longer and aging populations will become a future challenge. We have investigated the advanced technologies and the promising business trends to lead the future economy with the text mining methodologies and other forecasting techniques. The purpose of this study is to describe the future aged care services in needs considering both healthy and unhealthy aging conditions. Methodology & Theoretical Orientation: By searching literally thousands of news articles with the aging related queries, we can easily derive certain patterns that may help identify a commonest perceptions and needs, not captured by the other survey questions. Healthy life expectancy, fertility rates, medical expenses, security, welfare, technology, services are core topic keywords, according to recent news articles. Besides text mining, researchers from each fields evaluate how important the technologies are. Findings: The promising healthcare service and industries for healthy aging are categorized into these; universal infra, healthcare for smart home, medical robots, regenerative medicine, mobile healthcare. It covers from the needs for a better life style to the actual medical demands which is a different healthcare categorization due to the text mining analysis. Conclusion & Significance: So-called ‘senior shift generation’, who has to live longer as the aged should endeavor to stay healthy since they are young. Therefore we should also consider the healthcare services and technologies of the entire life cycle, not just for the elderly. Furthermore, this research is meaningful to include medical aged care for unhealthy people as well as aged-life-healthcare services for healthy people’s well-being.

Statement of the Problem: Older gay men aged 52-70 survived the AIDS crisis and a less accepting society resulting in social networks that differ drastically compared to the general population. The purpose of this study is to examine the perceived social make-up of gay men across two groups: Baby boomers and millennials using an anonymous survey. Aim: The study will aim to illustrate current social support for baby boomers and anticipated social support for millennials. Based on varying sociopolitical landscapes experienced by the two cohorts, the study will specifically try to discern if gay millennials will rely more on social support systems similar to their heterosexual counterparts: children and marriage are considered traditional institutions along with an emphasis on biological families compared to gay boomers. Current Literature: Marginalized sexual identity buffers the negative stressors of aging due to identity resolution earlier on life. Older gay men rely more on communities of “chosen family” and have a greater network of friends compared to straight counterparts. Gay boomers are more likely to be caretakers having survived the AIDS crisis. Methodology: Gay men across the two cohorts were recruited via snowballing, Craigslist ads, notices in gay sites around the San Francisco Bay Area, and ads in national and gay LISTSERVs. Participants are eligible to win 1 of 3 ($50) amazon gift cards upon completing a demographic form with information about their ethnicity, and gay identity, coming out experiences along with the multidimensional scale of perceived social support. All data will be collected via surveys and this can be done electronically or hard copy. Responses are anonymous. Findings: Data is still under collection for analysis and discussion at conference. Significance: The study will assess not only the current needs of older gay men but future cohorts as they move into later life.

Deborah A Lekan is a board certified gerontological nurse with a research focus on frailty in middle aged and older adults and the use of big data and data science to use the abundant already collected, data from the electronic health record to examine problems such as frailty. She is particularly interested in how health disparities and social determinants of health, especially psychosocial factors, impact health status and risk for frailty and associated adverse health outcomes and risk-reduction interventions to promote patient recovery and how novel data analytics can illuminate some of these complex issues.

Introduction: Frailty is a clinical syndrome of decreased physiologic reserve and dysregulation in multiple physiologic systems that are associated with increased risk for adverse outcomes. Purpose: The aim of this retrospective, cross-sectional, correlational study was to characterize frailty in older adults admitted to a tertiary care hospital using a biopsychosocial frailty assessment and to determine associations between frailty and adverse outcomes including time to in-hospital mortality and 30-day rehospitalization. Methods: The sample included medical inpatients ≥55 years at a tertiary care hospital (N=278) in the U.S. Frailty was determined using existing clinical data from the electronic health record for symptoms, syndromes, conditions, and laboratory data for four serum biomarkers. A Frailty Risk Score was created from 16 risk factors and relationships between Frailty Risk Score and outcomes were examined. Results: The mean age was 70.2 years and mean Frailty Risk Score was 9.4 (SD, 2.2). Increased Frailty Risk Scores were significantly associated with increased risk of death (HR=1.77 to 2.27 for 3 days ≤ LOS ≤ 7 days) but depended upon length of stay (p < 0.001). Frailty was marginally associated with rehospitalization for those who did not die in-hospital (AOR=1.18, p=0.086, AUC=0.66, 95% CI for AUC= (0.57, 0.76)). The Frailty Risk Score may reflect complexity more than individual assessments of symptoms, diseases, or age; age was significantly associated with Frailty Risk Score (β= 0.039, t= 3.16, p = 0.002) but no longer significant in regression controlling for other variables, and higher risk of death was associated with increased Frailty Risk Scores, controlling for age, gender, race. Discussion: Readily available data in electronic health records can be used for frailty assessment. Informatics may facilitate data aggregation and decision support. Because frailty is potentially preventable and treatable, early detection is crucial to delivery of tailored interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
