Biography
Dr. MarÃn is Full Professor in Geriatrics and Internal Medicine at the department of Internal Medicine of the Pontificia Univerisdad Católica de Chile (PUC), School of Medicine, where he is also Head of the Geriatric and Gerontology Program and Hononary Director of the University’s Geriatric and Gerontology Center-CAVE. Dr. MarÃn founded and was President of the First Congress of Medical Students in Chile, and he was the coordinator responsible for Project FOSIS-PUC, which worked to improve the quality of life for the elderly poor. He has coordinated several roundtable discussions nationally and internationally and has actively participated at the World Congress of Geriatrics-IAGG on several occasions. He was president (2003-2007) of COMLAT-Latin-American geriatrics associations of IAGG He has edited, authored, or coauthored ten books, including Updates in Geriatrics and Alzheimer’s Disease: A Caretaker’s Guide. Dr. MarÃn became a Fellow of the ACP in 2002 and is a member of the American and British Geriatrics Societies as well as the International Association of Gerontology-IAGG, among others. He is Past-President of the Chilean Society of Internal Medicine and also of the Chilean Geriatrics and Gerontological Societies.
