Biography

Nahid Azad obtained her MD from the University of Ottawa in 1983, Internal Medicine in 1986 and fellowship in geriatric medicine in 1991. She achieved the academic rank of full professor in 2011 for her scholarship as a clinician teacher and researcher. She is a full-time geriatrician at the Ottawa Hospital and has held many leadership positions. Dr. Azad’s clinical work includes geriatric assessment, management of acute and chronic medical conditions. As an academic physician, she has a progressive leadership achievement over 20 years and her research and peer reviewed publications focuses on CVD, heart failure, gender health and quality improvement. Dr. Azad’s interest is in both the area of patient care quality and safety and the area of cardio-geriatrics program for the frail elderly. Among many honours, she was awarded the 2013 Excellence in Physician Leadership from the Canadian Society of Physician Executives. In 2010, University of Ottawa has recognized her among 16 extraordinary women in academia. She is the Past-President of the Federation of the Medical Women and former Head of the Division of Geriatric.
